Globally, the number of institutions involved in sustainable investment has continued to grow rapidly for many years, and the growth rate began to slow in 2023 as the concept of sustainable investment matures. By the end of September 2023, the number of signatories to the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) reached 5,337, with 18 new signatories, representing a 0.3% increase compared to the end of 2022, and an AUM of about US$ 121 trillion. According to the latest statistics from the Global Sustainable Investment Alliance (GSIA) , sustainable investment in the five major global markets (Europe, United States, Canada, Australasia, Japan)  reached approximately US$ 30 trillion by the beginning of 2022, a 14% decrease compared with the same period in 2020, due to changes in the US methodology and adjustments to asset size in the calculation. Sustainable investment represents 24.4% of the whole assets under management (AUM) in the five markets.

By the end of September 2023, China’s Mainland had 137 PRI signatories, comprising 98 asset managers, four asset owners, and 35 service providers. As compiled by China China SIF, the green credit balance stood at RMB 28.58 trillion; the AUM of ESG mutual securities funds totalled RMB 438.311 billion; the outstanding size of green bonds stood at RMB 2.15 trillion; the sustainability-linked bond was RMB 114.89 billion; the social bond was RMB 760.979 billion; the transition bond was RMB 37.78 billion; the outstanding size of sustainable wealth management products was RMB 104.9 billion; the total amount of ESG private equity funds was about RMB 434.3 billion ; and the total amount of green industry funds was about RMB 384.8 billion.
