Background:
Just ahead of the UN COP28 summit, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) released draft of two standards. The new Climate Change Standard to help companies fully disclose their actions on climate transition and adaptation. And the revised Energy Standard, which focuses on ways companies can reduce energy consumption, improve energy efficiency and source renewable energy to reduce their carbon footprint. Both standards are now open for comment until February 29, 2024. The final version of the standards is expected to be released by the end of 2024.
On the afternoon of January 30, with technical support from GRI, SynTao Consulting and SynTao Green Finance will jointly organise an online seminar on the Climate Change Topic Standard. GRI will be invited to introduce the GRI Topic Standard for Climate Change and the GRI Energy Standard (Exposure Draft) and gather broader feedback from stakeholders. Registration for participation is highly welcomed.

GUO Peiyuan
Dr. GUO Peiyuan, who holds a Ph.D. in Management from Tsinghua University, is Chairman of China SIF and SynTao Green Finance. Peiyuan also serves as committee member of China Green Finance Committee, China Green Securities Committee, and advises UNEP FI's work in China.
Peng Jilai
Mr. Peng Jilai is the General Manager and Partner of SynTao Consulting Beijing Office, Director of China CSR Map (CCM), certified trainer for Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and lecturer of SynTao Academy. Mr. Peng has over 15 years of CSR/ESG consultancy experiences and has served many clients of automobile, FMCG, healthcare, financing, ICT and IDC industries. He is professional in developing sustainability strategy and ESG management system, CSR internal & external communication, CSR training, CSR/ESG reporting, CSR program planning, monitoring and evaluation. Besides business consultancy, Mr. Peng is heavily involved with corporate-NGO cooperation and has successfully developed a dozen of cross-sector partnership. He is also proficient with charity project implementation and evaluation and he particularly focus on child development, gender, rural revitalization, environment & climate change, health & nutrition issue. Mr. Peng provides advisory service for a dozen of large foundations and NGOs. Before joining SynTao, Mr. Peng worked for four years as Project Coordinator with GIZ on Sino-German CSR Project. Mr. Peng earned his bachelor degree in English Language and Literature from Capital Normal University.
Harold Pauwels
Director of Standards at the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Heading the team that is developing the next generation of GRI sustainability reporting standards in its multi stakeholder process. At the moment the team is working on projects developing the qualitative and quantitative indicators to report about any organization’s impacts on Biodiversity, Climate Change, Labor, Economic Impacts and Pollution.
For 20 years held a variety of management and expert roles in the field of standardization, certification and accreditation. Initiated global and regional multi-stakeholder initiatives across the areas of sustainability, safety culture and industrial safety. Harold has a Master degree (MSc) in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry and Business Administration. Initiated standards and certification teams and lead standards development, publishing and training Business Units before joining GRI.
Margherita Barbieri
Margherita Barbieri is Standards Manager at the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). She is leading the update and revision of the Climate Change and Energy Standards, covering topics such as GHG emissions, carbon credits, GHG removals, transition and adaptation strategies and just transition.
She had several years of experience in sustainability and marketing in the private sector and in stakeholder engagement.
She holds an International Relations MA degree from the University of Turin, a teaching assistantship at the University of British Columbia (Canada) and an Executive Programme at Oxford University's Saïd Business School in corporate sustainability. has years of working experience in sustainability and marketing in the private sector.
Foteini Markou
Foteini Markou is Senior Standards Officer at the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). She is a member of the project for the development of Climate Change Standards.
Foteini has a background both in international and standard setting organizations as well as in the private sector. Prior to joining GRI, she gained experience as an auditor in management systems and sustainability reporting as per international standards and has approached sustainability from different perspectives such as consulting, internal industry functions and international organizations.
Foteini has an academic background in Industrial Engineering and has obtained an MEng from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and a Master’s degree from the École Nationale Supérieure d' Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) in Paris.
Bianca Bovero
Bianca Bovero is Technical Content Manager at the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). She supported the drafting of Climate Change and Energy Standards, ensuring the quality and transparency of the content and the consistency of the new drafts with the whole GRI framework.
Bianca has a background of several years in sustainability consultancy, where she developed a deep understanding of sustainability reporting practices, mainly in the corporate sector. She holds a master’s degree in Environmental Biology from the University of Turin.
